The school involves parents of students in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s programs and the parental involvement policy.
How does the school involve parents?
Kumeyaay involves parents in the planning, review, and improvement of all school programs by being welcoming, open to parent recommendations, and multiple parent meetings where input is encouraged. Our school is heavily supported by our families on multiple levels.
The school provides parents of students with timely information about the school programs.
How does the school provide the information?
Information about school programs is provided through our weekly newsletters, teacher/parent communication, our monthly schoolwide meetings, and our additional monthly parent meeting.
Information is also provided on our school calendar and our school website.
The school provides parents with an explanation of the curriculum used at the school, the assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
How does the school provide the information?
This information is primarily provided at our School Site Council meetings. We discuss student progress toward schoolwide goals and resources provided to students in
need of extra support. This information is also discussed during monthly parent meetings when new information is gathered from current assessments.
If requested by parents, the school provides opportunities for parents to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children. How does the school provide the opportunities?
Parents are encouraged to make recommendations to better our school and education for our students. Information is collected through parent surveys, discussions at
multiple parent meetings each month, and individually via email to administration, classroom teachers, or service providers.
The school engages parents in meaningful interactions with the school. The Compact supports a partnership among staff, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement.
To help reach these goals, the school has established the following practices:
The school provides parents with assistance in understanding the state’s academic content standards, assessments, and how to monitor and improve the achievement of their children.
The school offers many meetings for families to review our academic content standards, assessments, and how to monitor and improve academic achievement. These
meetings include Family Friday, parent/teacher conferences, School Site Council meetings, and Site Governance Team meetings. Parents are also encouraged to communicate and inquire with teachers and/or administration when more information is needed about such topics.
The school provides parents with materials and training to help them work with their children to improve their children's achievement.
The school provides trainings, as needed, in the area of English Language Arts, Math, and Social Emotional learning. Parents may request trainings or the school may gather parent input through interest surveys. In addition, parents are provided with this information during parent teacher conferences. If a resource is needed at home for student academic growth, the school will work to provide this resource for home support.
The school educates staff members in the value of parent contributions, and in how to work with parents as equal partners.
The school highly values parent contributions and works with parents at school on a daily basis. The school and staff understand the value of our family engagement and our school is in equal partnership with our parents. The school coordinates and integrates parental involvement program with other programs, and conducts other activities, such as parent resource
centers, to encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children.
Our school offers many opportunities for parents to participate in activities and events that benefit the education of their children. Parents are encouraged to attend
Family Friday and read with their children in classrooms. The school also offers monthly parent/student meetings for special performances and announcements of events
and activities for parent involvement. Our Parent Task Force (PTF) actively recruits parents to volunteer and be at school often.
